Pause, Breathe, Smile Educator Certification

Pause, Breathe, Smile Educator Certification

Pause, Breathe, Smile is New Zealand’s only locally developed and researched mindfulness in schools programme, designed to align with the NZ Curriculum. Throughout this eight-week programme, students learn evidence-based mindfulness practices such as mindful breathing, mindful eating and mindful movements; practices for fostering kindness and compassion toward self and others; and topics grounded in science relating to positive mental wellbeing.

Research suggests introducing Pause, Breathe, Smile into your school will:

  • increase calmness
  • improve focus and attention
  • enhance self-awareness
  • help with conflict resolution and the development of positive relationships
  • reduce stress.

Both teachers and students experience many of these benefits. Learning mindfulness can also help with your professional development, improve your concentration and help you to better manage stress.

Read about the trainers
“I definitely recommend this training to anyone who is passionate about supporting children and young people gain access to a tool they can use to support them through their life, and enhance their ability to meet the world they will inherit in a positive and productive way. I also recommend it because of the personal wellbeing benefits of participating in mindfulness practices.”Jo Emerson, Principal, Longburn School

“The training was a rewarding, positive and challenging experience.  It provided a context for deepening my understanding of PBS with like-minded people from diverse backgrounds and employment.  I enjoyed it immensely because Grant and Natasha made the lessons clear, and showed the coherence between these.  They also most importantly discussed the ‘big picture’ of how PBS fitted in with all of Hauora and other curriculum areas, within the NZ school curriculum.  It was full of opportunities to learn, deepen understandings and ask questions related to the teaching of this in the school context.”Kay Stevens, Principal, Riversdale School
Pause Breath Smile Educator Certification in the Classroom
“The training was amazing.  Coming together with a group of likeminded people who held firm beliefs in the potential of the programme for the children and youth they work with soon created a true sense of ‘community’.  I felt that we were offered a very rich professional (and personal) learning experience through which we gained a relatively in-depth knowledge of the programme. I have come away from the training with the tools I need to implement the programme within our learning environment and with the reassurance that I have support should I need it from both the programme facilitators and the other members of the group who I trained with.”Jo Emerson, Principal, Longburn School
